GOP Consistency - From Seuss To Emerson

“I meant what I said and I said what I meant. An elephant's faithful one-hundred percent!”
― Dr. Seuss, Horton Hatches the Egg

And the GOP elephants in Congress have been nearly one-hundred percent faithful to a policy of opposition to, antagonism toward, and hatred of President Obama since he took office on January 20, 2009

No matter what Mr. Obama has said or done, Republicans have immediately and vociferously opposed it, even when he has embraced ideas originally set forth by Republicans.

It's quite apparent that Dr. Seuss is far too intellectual for these elephants. Someone needs to explain to them that Horton was faithful to a promise he made to another, not to a self-serving policy of power and wealth accumulation. Perhaps if he has finished My Pet Goat, George W. Bush could help them.

While they may not understand faithfulness, there is no doubt about their devotion to consistency. And, that, dear reader, brings us to another famous quotation:

A foolish foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines.

― Ralph Waldo Emerson, Self Reliance

Through their nearly one-hundred percent consistent opposition to all things Obama, their rejection  of science in favor of Biblical literalism, and their attachment to the philosophy of Rush Limbaugh, Republican members of Congress have invited the hobgoblin into their party and have become exemplars of those with little minds.
